I've just bought the latest novel in a fantasy series that is love (The Green Rider series by Kirsten Britain).

This is book 8, and they're not small books by any stretch of the imagination. I'm thinking of starting the series again from the beginning, but I have so many unread books, I feel a bit guilty about re reading something so long

I have re read a series in the past, and interspersed new books between which makes me feel better about it lol!

It's not a serious thing to worry about, but I wondered if anyone else had this internal struggle.

    1. I do a little, but then I try to tell myself that I’m literally reading for pleasure & if re-reading brings me pleasure then go ahead. I enjoy revisiting worlds & seeing characters again.

      No.
I read what I want, not what I “should”.

Reading is a passion and a hobby, not a job, my TBR list is not a list of chores.

    3. Absolutely never feel guilty this is your life and you need to fill it with whatever it is you love! Why not give the things you love more of your time? I rewatch my fav movies all the time so why not reread my fav books? We waste so much time on our phones but feel guilty for rereading a book? I feel more guilty about the books I wasted time on that were just shitty books

I’m in a weird spot where I get a huge amount of audiobook time at work, so my sheer volume is abnormally high. But I’d say, on average, about half my time, whether ebook or audiobook, is spent on repeat content. I’ll have stretches where I have a bunch of stuff I’m excited for, and stretches where I can’t really afford several dozen new audiobooks to get through the next month and fall back on a favorite.

Ultimately, while books do expand my mind in a variety of ways and I love new content, I’m reading/listening because I love books and stories, and old familiar ones are awesome, too.

    5. Would not reading these books make you more likely to read any of the books you own but haven’t opened yet?

I sometimes feel annoyed at myself for spending money on a book that I never get around to reading. So usually if I want a book, I check my local library first to see if they have it. I get rid of any books I bought but didn’t read after six months. Someone gave me the entire Dark Tower series for free, I read about half of the first one and after several months I gave the books away. I was never going to read them.

It’s your own choice how you spend your money and time.

Never! Sometimes I get bored during a reread and drop it, though.

Fun story – I was so in love with The Green Rider series as a teen. I hadn’t really thought much about them in years. Yesterday my husband came home with a book he found in a Little Free Library he thought I’d like, and it was The Green Rider! What a fun coincidence to see this thread today.

That is so funny, because I literally just started rereading Green Rider too, and I’m feeling guilty because I’m struggling to keep reading my way through the Wheel of Time, and am having difficulty staying motivated (I have a hard time connecting with ANY of the characters or their stories, except Perrin, but he doesn’t get enough page time). I just have to remind myself that I’m reading for enjoyment, and I enjoy Kerrigan and her story.
