Hello! This is kind of specific, but I am interested in books that examine the relationship between Tibetan Buddhism and mountains as sacred sites, that also specifically mention Mount Everest. Recently I have become very fascinated with the cultural/religious beliefs that are attached to popular natural tourist sites, before they ever became tourist attractions.
Recently my algorithm keeps showing me videos about how Mount Everest is a tourist extravaganza, with lines of people clogging the path to the summit. I also found out how much feces they leave behind everywhere, and I wondered at how Sherpas and Tibetan Buddhists feel about this as such a mountain must be a sacred site. I did some Google searching and found out some general things such as the mountain is considered an important sky goddess and the peak is a sacred place where she resides. I found a kind of kid's book relating to it but I am looking for a much more extensive history. Any suggestions that do not specifically mention Mount Everest are okay too!
Thank you for reading!
