Hi!
I'm looking on behalf of my fiance.
He's never completed a book – he's tried to give ASOIAF a go, but because it was so big, he just never ended up getting far into it because he got distracted.
He DOES love stories like Game of Thrones and Dune, I think he just needs to start with smaller books to get into the habit of sitting down to read.
I've started him on Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, because I find it quite funny, Doctor Who-ish and quick, but are there books you would recommend?
Hopefully , it can get into the gritty politics/world-building while not being a crazy big read?
I'm so sorry if i didnt describe things well, please let me know if I can clarify anything.
thank you!

*The Martian* and *Project Hail Mary* by Andy Weir are both very good, relatively short sci-fi books.
For fantasy, I actually suggest [Hoard](https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/76478/hoard/chapter/1394551/1-i-think-ive-found-the-flaw-in-your-plan), available for free at the link. It’s not complete, and it’s not likely to be short, but it’s *very* good, and I think that maybe he might handle an in-progress webnovel better than a complete book because he will only have to read one or two chapters a week. And hopefully that’ll help settle him into reading generally, and he may be more receptive to reading complete stories.
