I just finished Vonda N McIntyre’s Dreamsnake and loved it. The word building, the ingrained 70s vibes (they’re really into polyamory in this book) and that it was written by a woman with a female protagonist. The fact the author studied biology also adds a nice bit of informed world building
I’m looking for something that has these vibes, that isn’t too bleak and also not too utopian – a variety of emotional experiences
It doesn’t have to be vintage, but I’m really not into modern romantasy books or the like
