This summer I’m traveling around Europe for a month and then hiking/camping around the western US for about 2.5 weeks (Grand Canyon and Yosemite included!). The intention behind these travels is to get to know myself better, become more comfortable alone, and hopefully come home with a bit more self assurance and confidence. When I return home, I am moving cities!
My friends and I have been joking that this is my Eat Pray Love year, or my Saturn return if you’re into astrology (personally not my thing). I’m 27F, and I haven’t read a ton (a few books a year) but when a good book grips me I can’t put it down. I’ll have a lot of downtime on this trip so looking for recs.
I’m looking for a few books that will accompany this sort of mindset. Ideally something beautiful, something that opens my eyes or that you’d consider to be life changing. In my busy lifestyle, I’m quick to put down books that I find boring or slow, but I could probably muster through something slower on this trip with so much time so long as it feels meaningful.
I’m not into fantasy or sci fi so much. I’ve loved a ton of contemporary, buzzy books (Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Yellowface, God of the Woods, Conversations with Friends) and struggled to get through something like Wuthering Heights. I like learning about consciousness and accompanying forms of spirituality without religion, so I have considered the newest Michael Pollan book or The Way of Zen, books on meditation, etc. I’m also excited about older classic novels (so long as they aren’t overly difficult to read) and newer must-reads! Also open to self help books in this realm or anything you could see well-suiting a trip of a lifetime 🙂
All answers welcome! Thank you in advance. 💓
