A thriller that is easy to read and keeps you hooked like Frieda McFadden but a bit more high brow?

I am kind of banning myself from popcorn reads and pivoting to more literary novels in a bid to positively influence my own writing. Not that I could ever write anything as popular as her. Anyway hope this makes sense and doesn't sound like I'm too up myself.
