I'm a huge fan of psychological novels in general and have been wanting to try out this trope/subgenre for a while. I know it isn't the most niche topic but any recommendations would be really appreciated.

I should say I can be pretty picky (call me snobby if you like). Super accessible prose I just find a bit tedious, and I've been really unimpressed by authors like Nick Cutter in the past. If there are any classics of this niche, they'd probably be just what I'm looking for.

Length isn't an issue as long as they aren't complete bricks (both Brothers Karamazov and Carrion Comfort are on the list this year, and I'm not sure how much more of that I can take.)

I'm also trying to read more women authors, so bonus points for that.

    Thanks all!

NB I've already read We Have Always Lived in the Castle which I can see being recommended here. It was awesome, Shirley Jackson's the GOAT.
