A book where the protagonist is haunted/followed/stalked by someone/something then confronts it

I don’t mind if this criteria spoils the story!

I am looking for a story where the main character is haunted or stalked by something – be it another person, something ghostly/paranormal, a manifestation of something… and there is a later confrontation between the stalker and the protagonist. The confrontation might be accidental or deliberate by either party. I’m looking for a build up of tension or fear and to see how that pans out. No YA or romance please.

Bonus if it is a novella or a novel on the shorter side, but that’s less important than the above.
