So I just finished Project Hail Mary – I’ve been unemployed for some time now and whilst I’ve been hunting for a job I’ve been catching up on all my reading (silver linings!) and after having seen that book so well recommended everywhere, I thought I should read it before I see the movie…
…sadly I was disappointed. I don’t want to make a big long post about all the things I didn’t like because it’s all subjective – but I will say one thing was I wish that the prose was more mature and less straightforward. I really want to get into some more science fiction and I wondered if anyone has any recommendations where the prose is more descriptive/imaginative? I normally like high fantasy books (big Robin Hobb fan) so if there’s anything like that in the sci fi world I’d love to give it a go! For more things I would love in a sci fi:
– unique characters
– character driven stories
– wild plots/ doesn’t have to be grounded in reality
– massive concepts
– can be scary, really like scary stuff!
Thank you so much and can’t wait to hear suggestions!
