I sat down this afternoon and took a few hours to read Wassily Kandinsky’s “Concerning the Spiritual in Art”. I followed through all the philosophical exposition and I thought his reflections on the forms and progressions of history and ideas were interesting, and I even got through most of his stuff about element, form, and color. Eventually though as he got into the more intense systemization of art and applications of his ideas my attention span sort of fizzled out.
What really interested me were the strange, half-submerged dialectics running through the book — interior and exterior, force and passivity, spiritual and material, present and future, yellow and blue, etc etc. Are there other writers who applied Theosophical systems to discussions of art in this way? I need some recommendations
