I've been reading Wayside School to a mixed elementary group (Pre-K through 2nd grade) and they've loved it. Some of the youngest folks have taken to shouting lines during quiet times in class, so I'm looking for some fiction that's engaging but less comedic. Nothing scary, something all the kids can appreciate on some level (ie not a crazy-high-level vocabulary). Any recs?
