Book where the main protagonist is dumb and can’t follow basic instructions

I know it's an unusual request. Anyway, I'm looking for exactly someone who can't pour water in a glass if told to do it now, but is trying his/her best. I'm not looking for a protagonist who can't fit into society's rules/decorum.
