So I’m trying to find books I’ll actually LOVE (ik we all do)
My taste is kinda, um, idk. i’ve been trying to gather a couple of recs using AI but it’s not helping ;( so i have decided to ask actual readers
i haven’t read many books and ive set a target for myself this year, so plz help 🫡
What I want:
– Strong writing (this is #1 for me)
– Smart / calculating characters
– Clear plot direction (no random stuff happening for no reason)
– Proper payoff
– Worldbuilding with rules (like Mistborn: The Final Empire)
– Dread / inevitability (like Pet Sematary)
– Character thinking / decisions that actually matter
What I DON’T like:
– Slow, “vibes only” books
– Random plot twists with no buildup
– Too much romance focus
– Overly sexual stuff for no reason
– Books that start strong then fall off
– Confusing for the sake of being confusing
What I’m looking for (any of these):
– Thriller/mystery where I genuinely can’t predict it BUT it makes sense
– Fantasy that’s fast, structured, not romance-heavy
– Horror with real dread
– Sci-fi that actually has logic
Also I prefer:
– Good pacing
– Strong main character (or at least memorable ones)
– No unnecessary filler
Short or long both fine.
