Finished the Dublin Murder Squad series and need something to fill the void. What hooked me: the sense of place, the deeply human investigators, the feeling that evil is hiding inside ordinary community life. Not looking for twist-heavy airport thrillers — more interested in character and atmosphere.
Bonus points for: rural or small-town settings, female leads, police procedural elements, books where the villain feels genuinely plausible.
