Big bonus points: if the characters change a lot. (positive or negative character arcs are both great)
I love psychological/horror stories. Reading about the character's turmoils and tension and how they respond to them is great. I have no limits for disturbing content, but torture porn can be boring.
I also really liked Animal Farm from George Orwell. I was suggested The Memory Police for liking 1984, which was pretty good, but not my thing. I also don't really enjoy Kafka. Couldn't finish Blood Meridian because I got bored (I tried multiple times)
