I'm looking for a book that explains how the United States's physical geography–two ocean buffers, navigable river systems, varied climates, fertile land–directly shaped it as a political and economic entity. I'm less interested in geology/geography for its own sake and more in the "geography and geology as destiny" argument. Any recommendations?
