Female main character preferred. I also prefer sci fi, fantasy or paranormal but I’m pretty relaxed when it comes to genre. I really enjoy morally grey characters and I can get behind the occasional murderhobo. I don’t mind overpowered characters so long as the book is interesting.
Pet peeves from books I’ve recently read:
– Characters acting like bitches or idiots (or both) to highlight their “independence”.
– Absolutely stupid decisions made in order to further plot.
– Sexual tension or sex scenes at the weirdest times when they should be focused on staying alive.
– Taking bets to seduce random strangers when you are absolutely terrible at seduction.
– Love triangles.
I’ve read pretty much everything by Martha Wells and Ilona Andrews. I love the Dorina Basarab books. I love Mercy Thompson. I really enjoyed Naomi Novik. I enjoyed the Daindreth’s Assassin books. Loved pretty much everything by Grace Draven. Brandon Sanderson is great.
