I am a huge fan of fiction, usually in the realm of Forensic Science and Criminal Justice. But my other interest is historical fashion and fashionable figures, and weird history! If anyone has any book recommendations on these niche topics or those surrounding them, preferably non-fiction, I would love you forever in only the way a random Redditor can:

    • Geisha (or Meiko, Geisha history)
    • Oiran history
    • Meiji Era Japan (Opening of Japanese borders and the adoption of Western clothing)
    • Western Fashion
    • Courtesans (Preferably in the late 1800s)
    • Actresses of the 1800s
    • Queer history, preferably lesbians, any time period!
    • Anything to do with the 1870s fashion or notable people
    • Fashion Houses of the 1800s
    • Edwardian Actresses (My favorite is Gabrielle Ray!)

Basically, does anyone have any fun history books in any time period they are itching to recommend? I have access to my University's library for another year, and without classes to keep me busy, I go a bit stir crazy and read a bunch of books during the summer.

I'm planning to read Zola's Nana and some other classics too. Including Austen's Emma and Rebbeca by Maurier. I will read anything, really. Just finished Hungerstone by Katt Dunn, a retelling of Carmilla, one of my favorite books. History is my jam, bread, AND butter.
