As a child, some of my favourite books were 1990s Star Wars books like Wraith Squadron and Iron Fist. I'd describe them as kind of playful, swashbuckling adventure stories, part Top Gun, part Pirates of the Caribbean. I also really liked an Irish series called Skulduggery Pleasant about a wise-cracking skeleton detective, his sidekick, and a rogues gallery of absurd side characters.
I mostly read more dry, "classic" books now, but would love something with that fun feel again. Don't care about genre, just like something with that same vibe – camaraderie, shenanigans, teasing, characters are competent but rarely take themselves seriously.
