The Jules Vernes, Treasure Islands, and Musketeers of Monte Cristo are great and I welcome any recommendation you may have but I'm especially interested in more recent deeper-cut romps in the vein of The Princess Bride, Indiana Jones, The Mummy, and pretty much anything written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. They seem to have stronger themes and structure. I love that!
I enjoy a good swashbuckler but I hesitate to use the term because it's often mistaken as strictly pirates. To me it means it just has more of a romantic and roguish tone than your standard adventure…and swords.
Lots of swords.
