I would love to read more femdom romance books, but most of them end up being boring or just not my type.

These are the things I usually dislike about them:

    1. They focus too much on BDSM. I don’t want to read BDSM-centered stories- I just want a female character who naturally happens to be dominant.

    1. They feel like pure porn. I like smut, but I still want an actual story, not just nonstop sex scenes.

    2. The man is still treated as more powerful. I don’t mind a powerful male lead, but I dislike how many femdom books constantly remind readers that he’s still physically superior or could overpower her whenever he wants.

    3. Complete role reversal. Making the woman act exactly like a stereotypical asshole CEO just feels like I’m reading regular maledom dynamics with genders swapped.

    4. Omegaverse– just not my thing.

    5. Switching. I prefer pure femdom dynamics.

    6. Facial hair or body hair (though I love long hair) on male leads. This is just personal preference, but I don’t find it attractive at all.

    Things I do like:

    1. Fantasy-based femdom.

    2. Powerful female lead– and by 'powerful,' I mean women with actual power, like political authority, magical abilities, social influence, etc.

I haven’t finished many femdom books because I usually drop them early.

I read His Secret Illuminations, and it wasn’t bad, but it didn’t fully live up to my expectations.

Male lead: I expected him to be an actual Buddhist-style monk, but he wasn’t really that. Later, his personality changed a lot, I know it was supposed to be character growth, but I personally didn’t enjoy the direction.

Story: The story became very preachy about social issues. I wanted a fantasy story, not an essay about morality. The plot itself wasn’t bad, but this aspect made me lose interest.

Sex: The sex scenes were genuinely great. I honestly haven’t found scenes with that kind of dynamic anywhere else. I read quite a bit into the second half of the book because of that, and those parts were really good.

I like Chinese femdom novels (though sadly they usually aren’t smut because of censorship).

    The ones I enjoyed were:

Reborn to Love Lord Qiansui– pretty niche, and there were small things I didn’t like, but overall I really enjoyed it, especially the relationship dynamic.

Let the Villain Go- again, there were some elements I didn’t enjoy, but overall it was very good.

Thank you very much for reading all this rambling ❤️

If anyone has recommendations that might fit my preferences, I’d really appreciate them.
