Looking for a dark thriller.

I’m wanting to read a thriller that is really dark in content matter, while still being a good book. I’m not looking for splatterpunk or extreme horror, but rather something suspenseful with a real storyline. The two books I can think of that I enjoyed the most that I would consider ”dark” are Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter and Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. An honorable mention for its content matter (though it isn’t exactly a thriller) would be My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell.

My only triggers are detailed animal abuse.
