Hi everyone. After having to spend some time with my family, my mind's been busy with how desperately hungry I am for emotional, intellectual and spiritual depth, wch doesn't seem to be something the average Joe seeks out. I've always been struck by how the majority of people are out of touch with their innermost selves. As I age and mature, this pains me deeper and deeper. I want to read a novel that deals with this conflict of being devalued and misunderstood by a society that doesn't value the human soul, and is instead stuck in a cycle of chasing wealth and status for the detriment of an emotionally fulfilling life. The book doesn't necessarily have to be a pity party ala The Book of Disquiet. Despite being open to any and all angsty/existential picks, I'm also open to some Vonnegut style resilient humour, or any other tone that feels sincere and fresh. In short, I'm open to any and all literary tones, so please don't limit your recommendations based on the tone of my post 🙂 Oh, also: I've already read Siddhartha, which I guess fits this bill. Thanks in advance!
