Apologies if this is not meant to be asked here. It’s also very possible that this story does not exist at all and is just something he came up with one day, but I thought it’d be worth asking just checking. My father loved telling me bedtime stories all the time up to the day he passed away, because of that, he told me so many stories both made up and based on true stuff. I didn’t include the stories that I felt were just obviously fake since he usually starts those ones off with “Long long time ago, deeeeep in za mountains!” the ones I mention here I feel could be real. Also if these stories are vague, I apologies… I was told these stories when I was a kid almost a decade ago now, I’m trying my best to recall them-
1. This one is horror. There was a guy and a cat in the walls. He mentioned something about the cat licking oil off a spoon and the meowing of the cat eventually driving the man insane. The cat was later found dead inside the walls of the house.
2. This one is also horror. In feudal japan, there was a samurai who was unfaithful to his wife (I think) and so his wife committed suicide. Then the samurai was haunted by the ghost of his wife. The story ends with him swinging his sword around like a madman trying to ‘hit’ the ghost that won’t leave him alone before it hits a rock and the sword is split into two and one the blad jams him in the neck.
3. A guy gets put in a death sentence, but he wants to see his mother one last time. The king says it’s okay as long as he can find someone who can stay in his place for a week, I think? before the execution. If he’s too late, that person will be executed instead of him. He pleads but no one would accept his offer until his best friend stepped up. It included a lot of him running around. In the end, he got back in the nick of time.
4. A story about a guy who was evil all his life. Utter scum of a being. But one day, there was a spider that he wouldn’t step on because he felt bad. Because of this, after his death and he found himsefl in hell… I think it was a god? They gave him some mercy and dropped a spiderweb string down for him to climb on. But as he was climbing it, other souls started trying to climb the thread as well. Because he was scared that the thread might break, the guy started kicking the other souls.. The god gave up on him and cut the string.
5. The last one has a guy see a wizard or shaman make a pot of Gold. He asks the Shaman that he wants to learn how to do that too, and so the shaman agrees. However, there’s a trial. He must pass this test before he can. The only conditions for the test was that he shouldn’t say a word or make a sound. the man first goes into a forest with no food for a week, didn’t say anything. Then he was eaten alive by wolves, but he didn’t say anything. This continued on and on until he finally made his way to hell. In this version of hell, he saw his mother, turned to some kind of animal being tortured by devils. This time, he couldn’t keep his voice and just screamed out for his mother. He ‘failed’ the test, but the shaman said he passed.
These are the 5 main ones I can remember. These really mean a lot to me because these are the bonding times I had with my father when we were living alone. I tried asking chatgpt, but it just didn’t work. They led me to different stories! Of course, I understand that those stories may not actually exist, but I thought I’d give it a shot anyway! Thank you!
