Hi all,
I’ve been interested in delving more into classics, both in literature and the technical realm, and I’m curious if there’s a book club out there that caters to this blend. It seems most clubs I’ve come across focus mainly on literary works, leaving technical ones by the wayside, but my interest lies in both. I guess this is more of a book club recommendation rather than a book recommendation.
On the literary front, I’m thinking of works like of “The Iliad,” Shakespeare’s works, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” and others. For the technical aspect, Plato, Euclid, Herodotus etc. This would also include those who straddle the line between these worlds – think Machiavelli, Adam Smith, and Karl Marx. I’m all for exploring the most engaging parts of these works, rather than committing to reading them from cover to cover. A good reference for the range of material I’m interested in is the Great Books of the Western World, but I would also inclue more purely literary works like “Frankenstein” and “The Count of Monte Cristo.” It’s a broad spectrum, but I’m hoping to find others who share these eclectic tastes.
I think that reasonable pace would be about a chapter a week (depending on the book) with maybe switching between technical works and literary works.
Would this be interesting to anyone or does something like this exist?
