Title. I’m really afraid I’ll destroy the book in trying to remove the stains myself with the sandpaper or rubbing alcohol methods. Should I try anyway, find a shop that does book repairs and ask them instead, or just leave it alone in the event that even a professional could irreparably ruin it?
For context on just how valuable this book is (which will show why making this decision is so daunting, and the possible consequences so terrifying), it’s a first edition copy that was not only released 30+ years ago, but also signed 30+ years ago at one of its first-ever press tour events. It is irreplaceable in literally every sense of the word. I’m beyond gutted and I have absolutely no idea how it got all marked up. I’ve always kept it meticulously safe because it’s my all-time favorite novel and I wanted to own an original signed copy as a dear keepsake. 🙁
