    Jodi Piccoult books

EDIT: The books that I have read are Handle with care, Nineteen Minutes, Small Great Things, Plain truth, Perfect Match, Change of Heart, My sisters Keeper, The pact, A spark of light, Mad Honey and House Rules.

I own but have not read Vanishing Act, Picture Perfect, Mercy, Salem Falls and The Tenth Circle.

What is everyone’s favourite and least favourite of her books? I’ve read a lot of hers but not all. Of the ones I’ve read….

Fave: Perfect Match- this book was a difficult read because it deals with child SA. This book is so full of twists and turns though. I truly didn’t expect things to go the way they did.

Most shocking ending: Handle with Care- this is a book about a child who deals with a rare disability. This was a really good read but then ending completely shocked me. I can’t say I’m happy or sad with how it ended but I sure do respect Jodi for throwing us that curve ball.

Least Fave: Change of Heart- This book is about a women coming to terms with her husbands murderer being on death row. My reasoning behind not liking this book unfortunately is religion. It was so heavily laced with religion that it was really difficult to get through. I am an atheist and while I was raised Lutheran and can respect others choices this book was not for me. I don’t want to read about the new “messiah”. That’s silly to me. This book was good overall and I liked the story but the heavy religion ruined it and it quickly went on my least liked book list.

I tend to avoid her books that revolve around the mother leaving, finding a long lost mother or so on. There seems to be a lot about this topic. I don’t think I have much interest in any of those unless someone has a suggestion of a really good one?!

    1. I forget which ones I’ve read of hers, but I do remember reading one called The Vanishing. Did you ever read it?

I have only read Mad Honey and it was honestly one of the worst books I’ve ever read. Could not be more cliche if it tried. Aside from the overly predictable plot I found the writing terrible. I will never pick up another JP book again.

    3. Plain truth will always be my favorite, followed by my sisters keeper and songs of a humpback whale.

Her characters have always felt so human to me.

I started change of heart but couldn’t even finish it. It felt like she lost some of her magic after nineteeen minutes.

    4. I read My Sister’s Keeper, House Rules, Vanishing Acts, and Keeping Faith. Eventually I stopped because she has her formula and she just sticks to it, occasionally changing around a few things but they all felt the same.

I haven’t read any of the work since so I don’t know if she’s improved.

    5. I first read My Sister’s Keeper and was really blown away by how well it was written while tackling the difficult topic. It makes me think deeply from different point of views and understand each characters.

And then I read Keeping Faith. I enjoyed this one and it made me reflect on my own faith.

I started on The Pact, but never got to finish it as I was busy with study then, and I never get around to pick it back again.

    6. I’ve read My Sister’s Keeper (sobbed at the end of that one), Plain Truth (ending twist was eh) Tenth Circle (don’t remember the twist but it was interesting) and 19 Minutes (oof) back when I was in like. Middle and High school.

In general I clearly liked them enough that I kept picking them up, but they didn’t sit with me enough that I’ve sought her books out since. My general sense is that the individual stories were very interesting but they always had an A plot of two similar investigator types looking in on the situations from the outside and falling in love that current-me feels like detracts from the drama of the individual situations. But idk.

    7. I have read small great things, leaving time and mad honey. I like the human element in all her books. I’ve heard good things about sisters keeper and the pact. Might have to try them

We read My Sisters Keeper and Nineteen Minutes are my favorites. I have also read Leaving Time, House Rules and Small Great Things.

    9. She’s not good. Read “My Sister’s Keeper” and you will understand why. I don’t know why so many people like that book. The end was such a cop-out.

    10. She is one of the few authors who is a hard pass for me. I read one of her books, My Sister’s Keeper, and the end made me so angry I vowed I was done with her forever.

    11. House Rules / My Sister’s Keeper were two of my favorites (and still are) – I thought they dealt with the topics with a lot of skill and insight.

Mad Honey was my most recent read of hers and will be my last. For ME, the bait & switch of using a blurb that seemed to indicate it was about one thing, when it really was about another issue, then stuffing every conceivable social issue agenda into one book supposedly about one teen couple was ridiculous and over-the-top.

I was already leary of her more recent work after reading Lone Wolf which had a host of errors dealing with wolf facts. The super aggressive agenda pushing in Mad Honey was enough to move me out of “love her work” to “nope, never buying a book from her again”.
