I’ve just DNF’d ‘The Punch Escrow’ at 50% because the writing was awful.
I just want a book that has a similar vibe to Nolan’s ‘Inception’ or ‘Tenet’ – it doesn’t need car chases in dreams or time-inverted shootouts per se; I just want that slick, clever, serious tone with action and suspense and a gang of strong characters shooting and doing clever stuff to save the day. Violence and sex are fine.
From what I’ve already read (whether relevant to my request or not), I thought ‘The Hunt for Red October’ by Tom Clancy was good but a little short of action and a tad dry in places, although I’ll likely try more of his books. I really didn’t enjoy Orphan X by Gregg Hurwitz or Chris Ryan’s stuff when I tried them. I’ve yet to read John le Carré but I like the sound of his work.
While not along the same lines, the last couple of novels I’ve rated 5 stars were ‘Fight Club’ by Chuck Palahnuik and ‘Twilight’ by William Gay, for what it’s worth.
And I’ve already read ‘Dark Matter’ by Blake Crouch.
