Soon to be 12 year old wants books for her birthday. She is several levels above her age group by all school reading evaluations, but ultimately *is* still a young girl, with interests and a maturity level similar to her peers. I don’t want to accidentally give her anything too mature, and don’t have the time to read through things before her birthday to pre-screen it. (She changed her mind last minute, help!) She has requested horror, thriller or mystery books. As far as I am aware she enjoyed Goosebumps (but feels she has outgrown it), Five Nights at Freddy’s, Harry Potter and the Series of Unfortunate Events books.
At her age I was into high fantasy, so I’m at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
