Shantaram made me quit smoking with one of the cringiest lines I’ve ever read, “I smoked in those days because, like everyone else in the world who smokes, I wanted to die at least as much as I wanted to live.” – what’s some other cringey dialogue/writing that has made you quit things

I enjoyed Shantaram but Alot of the book is over the top with one of the most self righteous indulgent protagonists I have ever read.

The line about smoking I found so melodramatic and forced that it really just made me question why I even smoke. It genuinely had an effect on me even though I vivdly remember cringing like hell in the bath tub while reading it.

Just curious what’s some other cringey dialogue/writing that has made you quit things or question your own life choices
