I found out this morning that my estranged mother died last night. I’m not ready for non fiction to face my grief head on, but rather am hoping for suggestions for fiction.
Something literary, melancholic, with the theme somewhere of losing your mother. It doesn’t have to be the character’s central arc, it could also be part of their backstory. My mom did impart a love of literature. She was a big fan of existentialism and Camus’ opening lines of “Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don’t know.” are drifting through my head. Hoping for an engrossing, sad novel of literary fiction with grief and loss as themes, so that I can somewhat distract myself while also feeling the loss through a good character.
