    I’ve picked a few books already for the 2024 challenges! What books do you suggest to fill these categories? Also, if anyone knows of a book with a lot to do with pirates that would fit one, please let me know! For the read-the-world challenge, I am hoping to read books that are historical or political fiction based on true events or something that romanticizes the environment or culture of the country.

    # GENRES CHALLENGE

    * **Nonfiction book about food and/or drink -** I picked *A Cook’s Tour* by Anthony Bourdain
    * **Historical** **fiction novel set before 1900 -** Probably a good category for the pirate book, but open to any suggestions. Was considering *Burial Rites* by Hannah Kent.
    * **Biography or memoir about/by a musician -** Using this as an opportunity to read Britney Spears’s memoir *The Woman In Me*
    * **Manga -** Looking for a standalone novel, not a series.
    * **Thriller or crime novel in translation -** I want either a thriller or a crime novel that isn’t about a detective or solving a crime. Something from the criminal’s point of view or a victim. Also, it can’t originally have been written in English.
    * **Nonfiction book about psychology -** I’m thinking of going more of the self-help route with this. I’m a woman turning 30 in two months.
    * **Science fiction or dystopian book by a woman or nonbinary author -** Nothing to do with being in space. Dystopian is more what I’m looking for, but man vs nature or man vs man sci-fi is also welcome! Was considering *Tender is the Flesh* by Agustina Bazterrica.
    * **Middle-grade book with LGBTQ+ representation -** I don’t even know what middle grade means haha
    * **Short story collection by a black author -** Going with *Out There Screaming* by Jordan Peele
    * **Debut literary or contemporary fiction novel -** Ideally something from the last few years

    # READ THE WORLD CHALLENGE

    * **Chile -** *The House of the Spirits* by Isabel Allende
    * **Germany -** *The Book Thief* by Markus Zusak
    * **Ghana -** *Homegoing* by Yaa Gyasi

    * **Jamaica -**
    * **Lebanon -**
    * **Poland -** *Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead* by Olga Tokarczuk
