So I’ve been seeing a lot of mixed reviews of Both the movie and the book . But I watched the movie, loved it, read the book and loved it even more . But I also understand from people’s pov why they didn’t resonate with either . I think it’s because the trailer made it look like a thriller/zombie movie so I guess that’s what people were hoping for.so for the first 2h of the movie , if ur consistently thinking when is the action gonna start, when are the zombies gonna come busting in or even at the end , ur thinking will there be a sequel to end all these missing points? Then im afraid ur consuming this story not in the way the author intended to . I loved the over commentary of the book , in whcih he shows his true opinions of the world . That we all live by a system , our lives are defined by this system , by technology , we read the news but don’t pay attention. We know that there are tragedies around us , but we don’t really care do we . Both book and movie seem to show this with different examples , in the movie I loved GH commentary on what was the easiest way to destabilise a country .in the book , it was hinted at big gargantuan planes fighting wars with potential countries .i loved the panning out into space as well, as i thought it really drove in the point of how small and insignificant we are. The author never confirm nor denies anything , it could be a goverment takeover , it could be the solar flannels disrupting technology causing miscommed wards to start . It could be anything really . The point is not the cause of how this disruptions happened , but how we deal with it and our interactions with one another. How in the end , when our fragile system splinters ,things we taught mattered didn’t . Money doesn’t matter , clays publishing doesn’t matter, Amanda’s corporate standing doesn’t matter . When u strip that all away , nothing really matters does it . This story was more on human vulnerability, with a side dish on global warming/wars/conspiracies not a mindless day of the dead shit . So if u didn’t like the movie / book, suggest u read it again with a open mind
