I recently loved Debbie Urbanski’s new novel After World, where a super-intelligent AI ends up reordering human civilization. It got me thinking about other books that hinge on a fictional technology, but are otherwise set in the “real” world, i.e. modern-day planet earth. What books do you love that feature a scientific innovation almost as a central character? Bonus points if they’re written in the last decade or so (I love Jules Verne and Mary Shelley as much as anyone, but feel like those are more obvious choices)!
