It’s a genre I enjoy in movies and TV shows, but I’ve run into a brick wall in terms of finding well written adventure novels in the vein of Indiana Jones et al. Most of the books you encounter looking into this genre tend to be overly pulpy, with one dimensional and barely sketched characters – thinking of the likes of James Rollins , Clive Cussler, Matthew Reilly (the last especially bad..), wasn’t a fan of any of those authors, it mostly felt like a odd combination of childish writing and ultraviolence, in the case of Reilly.. Any ideas?

It’s not exactly Indiana Jones, but *Treasure Island* by Robert Louis Stevenson is extremely well written.
Try Leon Uris
try “Gentlemen of the Road” by Michael Chabon
Thank you for the suggestions, although I’ve read Treasure Island and Gentlemen of the Road, they are great examples of what I’m looking for… Perhaps it’s just not a genre that lends itself to quality literature in the same way as sci fi and fantasy quest novels can.
While my recommendations will will probably be labeled as adventure genre examples, I suspect you may enjoy *The Revenant* by Punke, *El Paso* by Groom, or *True Grit* by Portis. They’re more-or-less westerns, but there’s adventure, development, and hopefully whatever else you seek. (Less devo in Revenant, though, I feel.)
