Sci-fi + horror books about war with aliens/parasites that control human bodies by invading them and doing non reversible damage like those things from Starship Troopers 2, Half-Life series (headcrabs), etc?

I always found stories about parasites that control human brains or something highly entertaining and terrifying at the same time. Like that majorly failed Starship Troopers 2 movie. I liked it.

I think one of the appealing sides of such stories are the “gore” and “flesh” parts. I mean there are plots about parasites in Doctor Who or movie Faculty, but they are too weak to my taste. Too childish. Not that dramatic and reversible in the end.

Are there books about such stuff?
