Reading everyone hating on Holden Caulfield in another sub made me realize I should re-read Catcher in the Rye. (I do not hate Holden at all! but it’s been a long time since I read it.)
So I was thinking to make this the year of reading or re-reading classics. I’m not super well-read on the classics, so I’d like to get an education.
But I only want to read good ones! Not just ones that are commonly referenced.
like I never need to re-read Scarlett Letter (so boring) or Heart of Darkness (so dense and uninteresting to me.)
Obviously this is going to vary a bunch, but I’d love to see all the suggestions.
Think books that are assigned in literature classes. Or just ones that are considered literary classics or important works.
I’d like to edit to add- I think I’m open to books that are significant that aren’t necessarily “classics” but books that are brought up so much in the culture that they have become significant.
