I just adore Andy Weir. I’ve loved all three books he’s put out, and Project Hail Mary is the best of them all. Essentially an interstellar adventure story of an elementary school teacher who wakes up on a ship in another star system, with the task of saving Earth from total extinction. I won’t go into the story, other than to say there’s plenty of twists and turns, and tons of great characters.

The science is fantastic and, as far as I understand(which admittedly isn’t very far) all perfectly believable, with maybe a corner or two cut for the sake of stories.

And the pacing is just perfect. I was finishing the book before I knew what was happening, especially as more and more of the mystery unfolds and you start getting more attached to the crew.

If you liked The Martian, like good scifi, or just love a good adventure, I cannot suggest this book enough.

Initially I didn’t think I would comment but since the first two people commenting decided to deride the book / author I thought I should comment.

I had read this last year and I absolutely loved the book. I don’t read a lot (8-12 books a year) but being someone into tech and science I can say that I loved how closely the author followed the science. I felt the middle of the story was a bit monotonous which might sound bad from a reader’s perspective but then when you’re in the middle of emptiness trapped in a spaceship, daily life can sound monotonous anyway I loved the ending too, amazing twist.

    3. Liked it a lot. There will never be enough writers who write books that are just pure fun to read.

The Martian was fun, but Artemis was horrible. Probably one of the worst main characters I have ever had to endure the company of.

So I’m a bit unsure if I should pick up this one. One hit, one miss.

I loved it too. I also feel like it could easily be used as a science curriculum for middle/high schoolers. Each chapter is like a mini science lesson. Gravity, orbital dynamics, radiation, astronomy, pharmacology, electromagnetism, evolution, climate change. The whole class can read the book together and recreate Grace and Rocky’s experiments in the classroom.

I adore Project Hail Mary, definitely one of my favourite books from the past several years. It just has basically everything I love in it and it’s so exciting and entertaining and heartwarming, it just reminds me why I love reading!
