I was at the library today, and while waiting in line, overheard a person who checked out a book which she said she enjoyed immensely. She went on to tell the librarian that when she finished it, she had no idea it was part of a trilogy, and she absolutely had to have the next one.

I’m looking for something like this. A series to get lost in. Not since anticipating the Harry Potter books at Barnes and Noble release parties when I was in high school (I’m 37 now) have I read a book series that was like an escape.

Few things that might help. Misery is my favorite King book. The Hobbit (fantasy), Heavier Than Heaven (biography), Ray Bradbury and Issac Asimov (science fiction) are favorites of mine. I like really good prose. For example the way trout and scenery were described in The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

A few things I don’t really like, but can tolerate if it’s natural, makes sense and is not forced: politics, gender wars, or depictions of cheating spouses

    1. I’ve enjoyed these assorted book series

Robert Galbraith – Cormoran Strike series

Rosie Clarke – Harpers Emporium series

      M. J. Arlidge – DI Helen Grace

Robyn Carr – Sullivan’s Crossing series (she writes many series)

Robin Cook – Jack Stapleton & Laurie Montgomery series

      M. W. Craven – Washington Poe

Maria V. Snyder – Study Series series

Kerry Wilkinson – Jessica Daniel series

    2. Green Rider series by Kristen Britain

Very long, long epic fantasy book series. 7 mainline books, one novella, one short story/novella collection. Book 8 is being written though it might be split into two books to wrap everything up.

I absolutely adored and got completely lost in The Realm of the Elderlings series by Robin Hobb (first book is [Assassin’s Apprentice](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/77197)). She wrote them in trilogies, but all the loose ends are pretty much tied up at the end of each trilogy, so if you decide it’s not for you, it’s easy to step out. However, the payoff of all 16 in order is like few things I’ve ever experienced, in the best possible way.

    4. The Cradle Series by Will Wight. Read it voraciously, multiple times. If you want an underdog who defies the odds in a story that just doesn’t seem to stop escalating, then check it out.

Because you loved Harry Potter you should totally read Super Powered by Drew Hayes. It’s about university students in a secret program competing to become super heroes. It’s 4 books and a spin off called Corpies that should be read between books 2 and 3.

“Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop student with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

Five of this year’s freshmen are extra special. They have a secret aside from their abilities, one that they must guard from even their classmates. Because for every one person in the world with abilities they can control, there are three who lack such skill. These lesser super beings, Powereds as they are called, have always been treated as burdens and second class citizens. Though there has been ample research in the area, no one has ever succeeded in turning a Powered into a regular human, let alone a Super.

      That is, until now…”

    6. Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch – crime fighting wizardry and at least 9 books (so far!) {Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch} Edit to add – while the first book is called Rivers of London originally (in the UK), it was renamed Midnight Riot in the US

    7. Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Widely loved, and I believe there are somewhere around 40 books, so there’s a whole lot to love.

    8. 🖤🖤🖤Girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy (don’t even bother yourself with the other three books, written by a man hired by the estranged father and brother of Larsson) 😁😉
