Looking for books to get my ten year old boy to like reading
My ten year old son is in the 5th grade but has a third grade reading level. He hates reading. He is black and likes books in which blacks are the protagonist more. Please send me some options.
When I was that age I really enjoyed the Harry Potter and Series of Unfortunate Events series (although neither have Black MCs).
Something easy like a comic/graphic novel geared towards kids his age might pique his interest (maybe Black Panther or Miles Morales?)…along this vein is The Adventure of Captain Underpants, which has a Black MC…but not sure if you’re ok with potty humor.
The Tristan Strong trilogy by Kwame Mbalia is similar to Rick Riordan stories but the protagonist is an African American 7th grader and it deals with African gods and African American folktales. Could check it out

He’s, unfortunately, no longer into Spiderman or Miles. No idea why. I’ll try unfortunate events.

I used a lot of sports magazines for my son back in the day because my son was really athletic. My hope was that if I just left them casually laying around he would pick up the habit of reading for enjoyment. It worked for us.

Maybe [Take Back the Block](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/fbf0f827-e4e6-4e5b-bd54-837a377bd6b1) by Chrystal D. Giles. [Amari and the Night Brothers](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/bc900683-2d84-47f8-aa09-6a494a57bb18) by B.B. Alston is very good, but might be above his reading level
Miles Morales: Spider-Man
