For example, I’ve started making my way through the CWA Gold Dagger winners, and I see some that are several books deep into their series (e.g., The Far Side of the Dollar (Lew Archer, #12)).

I know character development and past stories are typically all reflected, however minor, in the following entries in a series, so just wondering if you take the time to go back and read #1 through the award winner (or further) when tackling a list of award winners.

    1. I tend to like to start at the beginning, when it’s possible. It really isn’t necessary for a lot of mystery series, since they tend to be more episodic than a through story, but I still like it.

    2. I usually don’t have this problem since i like reading authors’ books by publication date, it’s a fun way of seeing how they get better at their craft and to maybe just read some books you would’ve probably never read
