On two separate occasions, I’ve read *A Discovery of Witches* by Deborah Harkness, loved it, and then started reading *Shadow of Night* and just couldn’t get through it. Multiple people have told me the third book is fantastic, if I can get through the second. A friend recommended trying it as an audiobook instead, so I figured I’d give it one more try.
But… I’m almost done listening to DoW and I’m honestly a little underwhelmed this time around. I’m not sure if I even want to bother trying to listen to the second to get to the third. Is it worth powering through?

Deborah Harkness did an AMA here in /r/books [you should check it out](http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/396671/im_deborah_harkness_author_of_the_1_bestselling/?) 🙂 . [Here’s a full list of our upcoming AMAs](http://www.reddit.com/r/books/wiki/amafullschedule)
