Hello!
So I’m a big fan of science fiction, fantasy, and everything in between, and especially love it when the author has clearly put a lot of time and effort into fleshing out the world the characters live in. The medium of stories is just so good for exploration of landscapes, politics, culture and the human experience. No more is this more evident than in the stories I’ve come to refer to as fantastic tourism.
Fantastic tourism is what I’ve come to call stories which have the character/s traveling to another land, experiencing the culture, exploring the towns, talking to the people, that sort of thing. Certainly, it doesn’t have to be a travel story. It can easily be a book where we are the tourists, introduced to a world wholly forign to ourselves, even if it’s familiar to the characters. I love how worldbuilding takes center stage in these tales, which is what i’m looking for.
Could any of the lovely people here tell me if there’s a name for this? Better yet, throw some recommendations my way. Thanks!
