I loved LOTR years ago and have tried some other fantasy series, but more modern or “low” fantasy just hasn’t worked for me in the same way. Looking for any high fantasy recommendations, a bonus if they aren’t terribly long.
Try dune? It’s sci-if but reads more like fantasy. I heard Mistborn series and the witchers are a great read as well.

Honestly, there’s almost no modern fantasy out there that reads like LOTR. They are all far more plot focused, with little emphasis on prose. But some of the older stuff is close.

You should check out books written by R.A Salvatore. They are all essentially dungeons and dragons-esque. The Drizzt books are easily some of his more popular, and it follows the story of a dark elfs escape from the Underdark.
