Surrealist and/or existencialist fiction, driven by curiosity for the unknown

I want something that is metaphorical, deliberately criptic to leave you with a bunch of questions but giving enough answers at the same time. I want the kind of book that you want to keep reading to find out what are all these things, who are these people, who is the protagonist, why is all of this happening or why is it here. Is it really happening or is it being imagined? That kind of story.
