Hello! I run the DEI book club for my company. Last year, we read several hard-hitting social justice books with a lot of gravitas, like *The 1619 Project* and *Real Queer America.* This year, I want to focus on diverse perspectives across genres and investigate how people’s various identities inform their writing while introducing my club to authors they won’t necessarily find among the Lee Childs and Vince Flynns of the world.

We’re beginning this year with *Parable of the Sower* by Octavia E. Butler, which I think will be a great start (especially because it’s set in 2024!). As a Black woman writer from the times of segregation who also had dyslexia, she’s got intersectional perspective like crazy and obviously her work reflects that. That’s kind of what I’m going for. I was also thinking of *Obsessed,* which is a memoir about the author’s teenage onset of OCD.

Anyway, I’d like to crowdsource a bunch of options for upcoming book club books:

    * Fiction or non-fiction is fine, open to many genres
    * Must be more or less safe for work
    * Seeking diversity of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, country of origin, ability, etc.
    * Bonus points for characters who are also super diverse

Thank you for any recs you have!
