Has anyone ever considered or even tried splitting longer books, a Tolstoy or a Dostoevsky, into more manageable and less intimidating sizes? Or is this utter madness?
They seem like they’re so big that they would actually be a challenge to hold or to carry around. Cutting the spine and making them the same thickness as standard paperback seems like a possible solution.
Is it this desecration? Is it even possible?

When Crime and Punishment was originally published it came out in monthly installments IIRC. I think 10 or 12.
Just chopped War and Peace into its five volumes, taped up the spines to keep it sturdy. Makes it feel like reading a series, so I would recommend.
