Currently reading The Geography of Nowhere by James Howard Kunstler – I am fascinated by the great detail found in the exploration of America’s civil/urban planning history, and how it effects the present day state of public spaces. I am also interested in the comparisons made between American urban/industrial development and that of Europe, especially in regards to the notion of the earliest American suburbs being directly influenced by the “timeless, pastoral” feel of European villages, and the later inverse international influencing of Americans on European architects, who copied the cold, Modernist designs of the American industrial revolution.
I am eager for more of anything in this realm of subject matter – any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
