We read Project Hail Mary aloud to our 7 year old and she’s obsessed. She loved the hard sci-fi (she’s loves anything that’s full of science facts), the thrilling adventure, the casual comedic tone, and the mystery.

Trying to find other stuff, but struggling to thread the needle of something that doesn’t feel to her like a “kiddie” book, while also still being engaging and appropriate for her life experience. For example, The Martian would be great, but has way too much swearing for a 7 year old.

There is a student’s version of The Martian, so you could look for that. Stuart Gibbs’ Space series is also great.

    2. I’d also recommend The Lion of Mars by Jennifer L. Holm and A Rover’s Story by Jasmine Warga.

We’ve been reading Sanderson’s Alcatraz series with our 7/9 year olds and they are really enjoying it. Honestly so are the adults. And you’re always safe from swearing with him.

    4. Try Isaac Asimov… not much sex in there.
