Hello! I am going to use fake names so it’s not confusing but I am hoping someone may be able to help suggest a book to me to offer to my friend who is struggling with understanding and supporting her adult daughter right now.
A good friend of mine (Carol -50’s) has an adult daughter (Abby- late 20’s) who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Abby has a husband and toddler. Carol and Abby live in different cities but talk daily. Abby recently lost her job and stopped taking her medication. Carol has been trying to be supportive (paying for a gym membership, helping with bills), but Abby has no motivation and her anxiety and depression are at a high. She’s working with her doctors, but I’m just wondering if there’s a book that anyone has found that would be supportive during this time? Doesn’t have to be specifically a how-to or anything, but just something that maybe someone in a similar situation has found to be comforting or helpful?
Carol is in my book club, and recently expressed how she wished there was more she could do but doesn’t know where to start or if what she’s doing is even in the right direction.
Thank you in advance and apologies if terminology is incorrect or if things are all over the place!
